ROUTE 15 SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS, RESURFACING, ENHANCEMENTS AND
BRIDGE IMPROVEMENTS
The Contract is part of the initiative for the improvement of the major and historic roadway, Merritt Parkway (Route 7/15). The goal of this project is to complete and improve connections, safety, and traffic flow between Route 7, Route 15, Main Avenue, and Merritt Parkway in Norwalk, Connecticut. The current Route 7 /Route 15 is a partial interchange distinguished by missing connections at Route 7 North to the Merritt Parkway North and Merritt Parkway South to Route 7 South, amongst others. The BES Team will be providing Inspection and Office Engineering services as of April 2021 for project work involving the safety improvements, resurfacing, enhancements, and bridge improvements to these connectors. Project specifics include a cross slope correction, full depth pavement reconstruction, milling and paving and the replacement of existing guiderails with new steel-backed wooden Merritt Parkway rails. The right shoulders will be widened, while the median width will be reduced at the bridges. Additional work includes minor bridge upgrades and concrete repairs, the reinforcement of the parapets and extensions and rehabilitation of concrete box culverts. Drainage, landscape and planting improvements will also be undertaken.
